How we price your British gold coins
British gold splits into two families, and we handle each on its own merits. Modern Britannias are .9999-fine bullion whose worth is set by their gold weight against the day's spot price; the classic Sovereign is 22-karat and holds just under a quarter-ounce of gold, so much of its value is metal too — but older dates and choice grades can be sought after by collectors.
Whatever you bring, our buyer authenticates it, weighs it, and shows how the figure is reached. Bullion Britannias track the gold market closely, while Sovereigns, Queen's Beasts, Tudor Beasts, and graded Royal Mint issues may earn more than melt, and we factor that premium in when the market calls for it. You are paid before you leave, with nothing posted away.
What to bring and what to expect
Bring the coins as you keep them — loose, in tubes, in coin wallets, or in Royal Mint presentation cases — and set out any certificates or graded holders alongside them. Please bring photo identification; all sellers present one.
There is nothing to schedule. Call in during trading hours for a free, relaxed valuation talked through in plain terms, then choose freely: agree and you are paid immediately, or hold on to your coins and walk away with no obligation.
British Gold Coins: common questions
Are old Sovereigns worth more than their gold?+
Sometimes. Every Sovereign's offer starts from its 22-karat gold content at the live price. Certain reigns, dates, and mint marks — or high grades — attract collectors, and where that premium is real we build it into the offer.
Do you buy half Sovereigns and fractional Britannias?+
Yes — half Sovereigns, quarter and tenth Britannias, and the larger sizes are all bought. Each is paid on its precise gold weight against the current market, plus any collector premium the piece supports.
Will you buy a Sovereign mounted in jewellery?+
We will. A mounted Sovereign is still gold, so we value the coin's gold content and the metal of the mount together. If the mount is a fine piece in its own right, that is reflected too.
Do Queen's Beasts and Tudor Beasts sell for a premium?+
They can. These Royal Mint series are .9999 bullion at heart, but popular designs and low-mintage or graded examples sometimes trade above their gold value, which we recognise when demand supports it.
